Monday, June 10th Volunteer Work Ronald McDonal House at Nemours Children’s Hospital We had a great time volunteering at the Ronald McDonal House! We cooked a fajita lunch for the families followed by homemade cookies for dessert. The rest of the crew helped around the house by cleaning windows, sweeping, mopping, and wiping down every toy in the play room (down to the last LEGO)! Monday, June 10th Morning Lesson: Only God can see the full picture. It is up for us to trust in Him and follow His direction, even when what He is asking us to do or leading us through doesn’t make sense. If we always knew what God had planned on the other side of the mountain, wouldn’t it be so much easier to climb the mountain? However, even without being able to tell what the further has in store, it’s up for us to trust God and put one foot in front of the other. “Some time later God tested Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!” “Here I am,” he replied. Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.” Early the next morning Abraham got up and loaded his donkey. He took with him two of his servants and his son Isaac. When he had cut enough wood for the burnt offering, he set out for the place God had told him about. On the third day Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance. He said to his servants, “Stay here with the donkey while I and the boy go over there. We will worship and then we will come back to you.” Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and placed it on his son Isaac, and he himself carried the fire and the knife. As the two of them went on together, Isaac spoke up and said to his father Abraham, “Father?” “Yes, my son?” Abraham replied. “The fire and wood are here,” Isaac said, “but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?” Abraham answered, “God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” And the two of them went on together. We’re on the road again - destination Orlando! Thanks Rachel for leading us in a great morning devotional time. It was an important reminder to reflect on the meaning of the Lord’s Prayer, not just recite it from memory without taking time to think about what we’re actually saying. “One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.” He said to them, “When you pray, say: “ ‘Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us. And lead us not into temptation. ’ ”” Luke 11:1-4 NIV
We have made it through the first leg. Evening devotional time went well. Please keep us in your prayers this week. “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Every year, we set a theme for the trip complete with a song and Bible verse. This year, our theme is “Be Strong and Courageous.” We went through a series of different lessons learning from different people in the Bible. We learned that God doesn’t call the qualified, but He qualifies the called. Many of the people that we looked at were presented with seemingly impossible tasks. Our verse come from when Joshua and the Israelites are about to enter the Promised Land after wondering through the wilderness for 40 years, and the first city that they are to face is surrounded by three rings of walls. From the outside, the walls looked to be nearly 10 stories high. We all have our own Jerichos, our own insurmountable barriers that we most overcome, our own challenges and giants that we face on a daily basis. The same words that God said to Joshua, He is saying to each of us, and if we have faith and trust in Him, He will bring us to victory just as He did for Joshua and the Israelites. “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”” Joshua 1:9 NIV As you listen to the words of the song, let some of the lyrics be your prayer to God. Also, listen for the different Bible stories that are mentioned throughout the song (I’ve found 4 of them), and if you aren’t familiar with the stories or perhaps it’s been a while since you’ve read them, spend some time this week studying them. The shepherds & kings were sure making joyful music this morning. Join us on December 16 for our annual Christmas Children's Program. If you have children or grandchildren who want to be a part of this program celebrating Jesus' birth, join us for church next Sunday at 9:30 am followed by the program practice.
